Since 2006 Chris Brogan has been issuing 3 words on January 1st intended to help focus him on the things he plans to get done that year.
Rather than resolutions, they are intended to be a central focus for goals. You can read more from Chris Brogan here and in a complimentary blog post by Mitch Joel.
Try it! You might find it to be a useful tool as you change the world in 2014!
Here’s mine (Doug Bruhnke):
1) Celebrate. “Celebrate what you want to see more of.” (Tom Peters). What a powerful idea, and one that is as timely as ever. In a generation split by emotional arguments over petty local issues, the antidote is celebration – of the good things, and those we want to see more of… like marketing, globalization, success, innovation, collaboration, change, growth, commerce, understanding, tolerance, progress, faith, love, peace, endurance, science and sustainability.
2) Why. Simon Sinek said that people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. It’s a simple, transformative idea – and one that I’ll be wrapping my head around more and more in 2014. Why, indeed.
3) Focus. I will do better of keeping ‘eyes on the prize’ in 2014 – helping clients succeed. Their success is our success – and keeping our attention there makes everything else work out. Get ‘er done, and THEN celebrate!
Happy New Year, and may your three words inspire YOU to greatness and moving the needle in 2014!
